Cocoa Man’s early singing years began in the church and the Glee Club in elementary school while growing up in Washington, DC. Later he would join two singing groups, first with a group called D’mentions, which paid homage to the ‘old school’ sounds of groups like The Delfonics and New Birth.

 The next group that Cocoa Man would lend his smooth lead vocals to - Main Event, which had a New Jack, Go-Go, Pop sound with high energy choreography and stage show presence.  The group signed in the late 80’s/early 90’s with a local DMV independent label – Washington Hitmakers, and released their first album, “So Delicious”. This was a dream come true for Cocoa Man.

While the groups’ first album release of “So Delicious did not hail much success here in the US, a second release of the album, with its heavy funk, Go-Go and New Jack Swing influence, would easily find a loyal fan base across the Atlantic and find its success in London, England. Eventually, the record label would file Chapter 11.  Today, you can still find a Main Event album for sale online.

 Born beneath the summer skies of Washington, D.C., on July 12, 1969, Cocoa Man is a soul shaped by faith, love, and rhythm. A divorced and devoted father to three grown sons, a teenage daughter, and a surrogate father-figure of two cherished daughters, his life has been a symphony of purpose—raising children, nurturing dreams, and building a successful contracting business. With calloused hands and a generous heart, he crafted a legacy rooted in hard work and compassion. For decades, he poured his soul into his family and his business, helping others find their rhythm. Now, as his children chart their own paths, Cocoa Man returns to his first love—music. With Christ leading the chorus, he steps boldly back into his melody, answering the call that has never stopped playing in his heart.

Cocoa Man has returned to the studio and doing so under his brand name - Cocoa Man Music.  His first single - “Hurt” is smooth, sultry and full of heart and soul. It will invite those that hear his voice for the first time – and familiar fans too - wanting to hear more from this veteran singer and songwriter. The single was released on May 1, 2020 and is available on all streaming platforms.

Recently Cocoa Man has Performed city wide at charity events, weddings and more including opening for Howard Hewitt in Wake Forest, NC on February 4th, 2023

To further add to the R&B brand, Cocoa Man is in the studio now currently working on a complete album of 11 songs including Move D.A.T. Donkey (Dat Ass Tough) available on Apple Music and YouTube Music.
